Every year there is a big event trough-out Cibap. Giving the first year students the chance to show their family but also other people their skills. We can almost make everything, but have to stick to a theme. This year that theme was Steampunk and giving the people a special message while watching the final result
Client: Project - Cibap Vakschool voor Verbeelding
Task: Creating a visual installation with the theme steampunk
We started with designing the event and what we wanted to show the people. The idea had to be something with Steampunk, but we also wanted the special meaning to be special. Choosing for 'flying back trough time'. Showing people how things where done back in the day and that some ideas where not as bad as you may think. This is also the reason why the logo of our 'company' is a butterfly. Free, able to fly back trough time and showing the Steampunk theme well.
The idea is to really take people back in to the old days. With a big canvas, a projector, a few houses and some nature, we want to show people how it looked back in the day, but with a little Steampunk twist.
For the projection that would be seen on the canvas, we had to film a movie to do so. So we started with a green screen, one of the project member in 'the old days' clothes and some props.
For the movie, we decided it would be all black and white. Making it that the film had to be also all in black in white. Because of this, we had to make the original footage we had, in to a darker one, making our 'character' all black. After this we had to remove the green screen background. Doing the same with the props, when they where used. First making them black and after that, removing the green screen background
While i was working on the movie, I felt that I was missing something. Making us deciding that we also wanted some animation in the movie to give it some more 'real' fibes.
So, after most of the movie was done, I started animating clouds, a zeppelin and some street lights. Giving the movie that little bit of business that most of us like with movies.
